Sports and Language Learning
Education and sport have been closely associated throughout history. Today sport is a fundamental part of school curricula in European Union countries
and, according to a poll, one third of Europeans regularly participate in a sporting activity.
The Eyes Initiative
With the slogan “Move your body, stretch your mind” the European Year of Education through Sport (EYES 2004) aimed to promote sport as an integral
part of all Europeans and especially to highlight sport’s educational value. Exercise, sport and their inherent benefits – fitness, health, strength
of character and team spirit – all motivate young people to develop their physical abilities and social skills against a fun, sporting backdrop. At
the same time, cooperation between E.U. educational and sporting organisations are strengthened, increasing awareness, participation and performance
at all levels across Europe.
Sports and LANGUAGE CONQUESTS-EFL
LANGUAGE CONQUESTS-EFL designs programmes for trainers, aerobics instructors, coaches with themes that include sports and fitness, leisure, health and
diet. Also every October-November a 15-hour English for Sports course is offered that coincides with the annual Lemesia international sports even in
Limassol. Learners will attend lessons in the morning allowing free time in the afternoons to partake in various water sports and also participate in
the 3-kms race for adults and cycling race. Our learners are also welcome to watch other contests taking place during this 2-week exciting event.
